Pulmonary Function Test Results

  • Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR): This measures how fast a person can blow air out of their lungs.
  • Vital Capacity (VC): This is the total amount of air a person can exhale after taking a deep breath.
  • Forced Vital Capacity (FVC): This measures how much air a person can forcefully exhale after taking a deep breath.
  • Tidal Volume (VT): This is the amount of air a person breathes in and out normally.
  • Minute Volume (MV): This measures how much air a person breathes out in one minute.
  • Functional Residual Capacity (FRC): This is the amount of air left in the lungs after a normal exhale.
  • Total Lung Capacity (TLC): This measures the total volume of air in the lungs when they are completely full.
  • Residual Volume (RV): This is the amount of air that remains in the lungs after a person has exhaled as much as they can.
  • Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV): This measures how much air is exhaled during the first, second, and third seconds of the FVC test.
  • Forced Expiratory Flow (FEF): This measures the average speed of air flow during the middle part of the FVC test.
