What is Hydrochlorothiazide?
- Hydrochlorothiazide is a prescription drug available in tablets and capsules. The most widely prescribed thiazide diuretic is hydrochlorothiazide.
- It is suggested that it be used to treat oedema and hypertension.
- Hydrochlorothiazide and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers are present in several combination products.
Hydrochlorothiazide Uses
- Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat heart failure, cirrhosis, chronic kidney failure, corticosteroid drugs, and nephrotic syndrome caused by excessive fluid accumulation and swelling (oedema) in the body.
- It is also used to treat elevated blood pressure alone or in combination with other blood pressure-reducing drugs.
- Hydrochlorothiazide can be used to treat kidney stones containing calcium because it reduces the amount of calcium excreted in the urine by the kidneys, thereby reducing the amount of stone-forming calcium in the urine.
- For the management of high blood pressure, this drug is used. Lowering high blood pressure helps to avoid strokes, kidney complications, and heart attacks.
- Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a class of drugs known as water pills/diuretics. It works by producing more urine, which helps eliminate excess salt and water from the body.
