Abdominal wall hydatid cyst: Diagnosis and treatment.

The Patient Was Suffering From Mild Pain in the Abdomen And Swelling Over The Right Hypochondrial Region Of The Abdomen. There Were No Other Constitutional Symptoms. O/e There Was A Palpable Mass Over The Right Hypochondrial Region, Firm In Consistency And Immobile. Routine Blood Investigations Were Within Normal Limits. The Cect Abdomen Revealed Possibilities Of Hepatic Cyst, Duplex Cyst, And Mesenteric Cyst. A Laparotomy Was Performed On 4th Feb 2023. The Findings Were A Large Cyst Measuring 8 Cm X 7 Cm Over The Parietal Wall Of The Abdomen Between The Rectus Abdominis And Posterior Rectus Sheath Diagnosed As A Muscular Hydatid Cyst. The Cyst Was Excised And Sent For Histopathology For Accurate Diagnosis.
Hydatid Cyst Is Caused By Echinococcus Granulosus, A Parasitic Infection. Dog Is The Primary Host, Sheep Is The Intermediate Host And Human Is The Accidental Host. Hydatid Cyst Commonly Occurs In The Liver And infrequently Occurs In The Lungs. Even Though It Can Occur In All Viscera And Soft Tissue The Occurrence Of A Hydatid Cyst In The Parietal Wall Of The Abdomen-Muscular Hydatid Cyst Is A Very Rare Occurrence That Occurred In This Case.
The Histopathology Report Dated 16-02-2023 Confirmed The Diagnosis Of A Hydatid Cyst.
