- Preparing for a facelift is identical to preparing for any other type of surgery. Before the procedure, your doctor will do blood tests or a pre-surgical assessment.
- The doctor will recommend you stop taking certain medications or alter your dose prior to treatment.
- Your physician may also advise you to quit smoking.
- To reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising, they may ask you to stop using aspirin, anti-inflammatory pain medicines, and herbal supplements.
How Is Rhytidectomy Done?
- Facelift surgery is commonly done outpatient with local anaesthetics and sedatives or under general anaesthesia.
- In a traditional rhytidectomy, the surgeon makes an incision in front of the ear that continues up into the hair or hairline and behind the ear into the hair-bearing scalp.
- The surgeon carefully pulls the skin upward and posteriorly and removes the extra skin after lifting it off the deeper face muscles and fat.

- Sutures and possibly staples are used to seal the incisions. A drain may be inserted under the skin behind the ear for one or two days to remove extra blood and fluids. Bandages are placed in the area.
